According to the Urban Institute's 2003 study, Investing in Creativity: A Study of the Support Structure for U.S. Artists, access to quality, affordable healthcare is one of the most difficult challenges facing artists today in the U.S. Indeed, it is one of the most difficult challenges facing many Americans. Artists in the workforce, in particular, exhibit a clear need for better information about healthcare and health insurance options, and about how to improve access to resources locally. LINC is committed to helping artists across the U.S. gain access to this information.
Through the National Artist Health Insurance Initiative, LINC partners with the Actors Fund to deliver information and resources to artists, organizations, and communities on options for affordable, local healthcare and health insurance. LINC also supports and disseminates research and other useful information (through lincnet.net) on the conditions facing artists within the U.S. healthcare and health insurance systems. Finally, LINC provides financial resources and direct support for arts organizations in the LINC network who are engaged in programming to meet the unique needs of individual artists in the areas of healthcare and health insurance. LINC’s goal is to connect as many artists as possible with information, and to cultivate programs throughout the U.S. designed to improve access to affordable, quality healthcare and insurance for individual artists of all disciplines.
